[full name removed], candidate for district 10 of Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 1B/U Street, said in an email yesterday that he will be dropping out of the race for personal reasons.
This means that [last name removed]'s former opponent, incumbent Allyson Carpenter, will almost certainly be re-elected. Carpenter is a Howard University undergrad majoring in political science. She was reported to be DC's "youngest elected official" after going unchallenged in a special election earlier this year.
District 10 is in upper right of the map and includes parts of the Howard University campus.
[last name removed]'s withdrawal means there is now only one candidate running in seven out of 12 ANC1B seats.
ANC1B, in addition to U Street, includes all or part of the following neighborhoods: Columbia Heights, LeDroit Park, Pleasant Plains, Shaw, University Heights, and lower Georgia Avenue.
The election will take place on Tuesday, November 4. Early voting will start
